Discovering Loss is a series of cyanotype prints made from old family photographs and negatives. The images used are of a family member I was never able to meet, as they passed away long before I was born. The variety of brush strokes is not unlike my attempt and ultimate struggle to try and piece together a past to make sense of the present. Some images may reveal small details, whereas others have no discernable elements. Experimenting with various chemicals during the cyanotype printing process led me to some of the darker tonalities, intended to give the work a sense of mourning.
